Meet Dr. Michael Mekis

At first I thought chiropractors only treated spines...   Or sore backs.

Dr. Michael MekisEver since I could remember, I knew I wanted a career focused on helping people. It was my recovery through chiropractic care of a soccer knee injury that inspired me to choose chiropractic. I discovered chiropractic after numerous consultations with other health providers and their recommendation that my knee would get better on its own or with medication. Following a thorough history and examination of my condition, my chiropractor formulated a diagnosis and treatment plan to get me on the road to recovery. After a number of treatments involving pain management and rehabilitation, I was able to return to the soccer field in enough time to finish the season and win the league championship. This inspiring experience led to my decision to follow a career path in chiropractic healthcare.

Upon graduating from the University of Windsor with an honours degree in Human Kinetics and a concentration in Movement Science, I was accepted to the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2000. After fours years of intensive study including one year of clinical internship, I graduated in 2004. This educational preparation provided me with the confidence and expertise to help people  with disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system. In striving to provide the best care to you as possible, I have continued to expand my education to include full certification in neuroanatomical acupuncture and spinal decompression therapy.

At the Gravenhurst Chiropractic Centre, our goal is to help as many people as possible relieve their pain and achieve optimum health. Following a thorough health history and focused physical exam, we determine the cause of your pain and formulate a diagnosis. Based on your needs, a treatment plan is tailored specifically to you. With a special interest in sports, motor vehicle accidents, and work related injuries, our focus is to get you back to optimum health as quickly as possible. Therapy techniques include chiropractic manipulation, acupuncture, spinal decompression and modalities including ultrasound and interferential current to help relieve your pain and restore function.

In my non-practice time, I enjoy interacting with the community through the Rotary club of Gravenhurst. As a local Rotarian, I am able to contribute to the community through volunteering in local fundraising events like weekly rotary bingo, the annual rotary auction and numerous other activities that bring positive social and economic contributions to our community. Eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly and receiving regular chiropractic care allow me to function my best to help you feel your best.

Thank you for visiting our site. I look forward to meeting you in person and learning how we may help you feel your best. Give us a call so we can help you take your first steps towards better health.
